The Nativity Story

I should be writing my bi-weekly reflection for CPE.  Instead, I watched the 2006 movie, "The Nativity Story".

The faithfulness of both Mary and Joseph is respectfully depicted in this wonderful film.  Mary is visited and told she has been chosen by God to bear his son, and then filled with the Holy Spirit.  Joseph is obedient to the call of the Angel.  And they journey together to Bethlehem for the birth of the Christ child.  As best I know, it is a good rendering of the story based on the synoptic gospels of the Bible.  It is stylized, visually compelling, and complete with Herod, the prophecy of the Messiah, and the Three Wise Men who follow a celestial event which ultimately leads them to the manger.

"The greatest of kings born in the most humble of places - God made into flesh".

As we wait, watch and anticipate this gift the world was given, I wish one and all a most holy and blessed Advent.

I really enjoyed this film. I thought it portrayed Mary's youth and faith really nicely. I particularly liked the three kings and their scads of fab outfits. Thanks for reminding me of this film. I am going to get it for my mom this Christmas - Don't tell her!
