Sounds of Life

With little to say the past few days, I just sat and listened to the world around me:

     The twitter of bird song in the neighborhood;
          an occasional plane jetting off;
               puppies romping around in the backyard;
                    then Quiet.
               A truck moving slowly down the street;
          a lawnmower starting in another yard;
     the rustle of the breeze through the leaves;
          lumber being cut by an unseen workman;
               then another pause.
                     Quiet again.
               The symphony of birds in the trees resumes;
     a basset boofing at a neighbor out back;
          the intermittent woof of his little buddy with him;
               a car cruises by out front;
                    another jet flying low in a different direction drowns out everything else;
                         then Stillness.
                    A bumble bee buzzing about near the screen;
               the hum of the computer;
           a woo-woo-woo-o-o-o from the tall black Gibbs;
     interspersed with boofs from the shorter Mulligan;
          a HVAC compressor fan starts and stops next door;
               something that sounds like a rattling tambourine;
                    muffled voices drifting by.
     Pawing at the backdoor.
     Time to rise.
     And go see this world that is out there.
