When officiating at a liturgy, if available, it is advisable to follow the order of worship as outlined in the service bulletin.

For Holy Baptism, included among the Additional Directions on pg 312 in the BCP, it states, "If desired, the hymn Gloria in excelsis may be sung immediately after the opening versicle and before the salutation "The Lord be with you".

In other words, don't step on the musical liturgical setting your choir has been preparing for this special service.

Suffice it to say, I can learn vicariously through the life, times and actions of priests who go before me.
