Collecting For The New Day

I am one of those crazies who actually appreciates Daylight Savings Time (DST).

Sitting here in my darkened room, watching the light of the new day creep over the horizon and in through the windows, observing the waking of the morning is both lovely and quiet.  There is one dog sleeping at my feet  while the other has gone off to find his own place, and there are a few birds singing their opening chorus.  The stillness of this moment is interrupted only by the ticky-tap of my typing here.  This day has started slow and is already beginning to build to an amazing crescendo where life will be full, the sights and sounds truly amazing, and God will be everywhere to be found.

This special time makes me think of the Collect for the Renewal of Life:

O God, the King eternal, who dividest the day from the night and turnest the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep thy law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done thy will with cheerfulness while it was day, we may, when the night cometh, rejoice to give thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

However when I read Morning Prayer, I cannot stop with one Collect, for they all are special to me.  Peace, Grace and Guidance are all things I need also:

O God, who are the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us, thy humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day: Defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that we, being ordered by thy governance, may do always what is righteous in thy sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O heavenly Father, in whom we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray thee so to guide and govern us by thy Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget thee, but may remember that we are ever walking in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

It is Spring.  "So Rise and Shine, and give God the glory, glory, children of the Lord"!
