Choices & Decisions

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
 ~ Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)

My field ed mentor used this vignette in his sermon this past week as he preached on Jesus being driven by the Spirit into the wilderness to face the temptations of the Evil One.

A seeker after Truth came to a saint for guidance.  "Tell me, wise one, how did you be come holy?'
"Two words," said the wise one.  "And what are they, please?" asked the seeker.  "Right choices," replied the
       wise one.

The seeker was fascinated.  "How does one learn to choose rightly?"  "One word," said the wise one.
"One word!  May I have it, please?" the seeker asked.  "Growth," said the wise one.

The seeker was thrilled.  "How does one grow?" he asked.  "Two words," replied the wise one.
"What are they, pray tell?" asked the seeker.  The wise one said, "Wrong Choices."

"I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and holding fast to him; for that means life to you and length of days, so that you may live in the land that the Lord swore to give to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob." ~ Deuteronomy 30: 19-20 (NRSV)
