Transformation Underway

The other day while running errands, I noticed from Quaker Lane that the long-standing timbers of the Immanuel Chapel were no longer there.  It signaled the next big steps of transforming the chapel ruin into the 1881 Chapel Memorial Garden.

It's time. The ruin has sat there since the October 2010 fire which consumed the chapel where I had worshiped, served at the altar, and worked as a sacristan.  It had been the other place that my parish, Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill, had worshipped.

So now the controlled demolition is underway.  It was a cold, drizzly day, but here are a few pictures.

For our Palm Sunday liturgy on March 24th, we will begin our procession from the chapel ruin/emerging memorial garden location, cross Seminary Road, and venture down the hill to Zabriskie Chapel where we worship now.  I hope this will be a time of leave taking that will permit parishioners to finally begin letting go of their loss and grief.  Sometime in 2015, we will return to Immanuel-on-the-Hill in the new church being built.  I hope that I'll still be here to celebrate there.
