My Basset Doesn't Love Me Right Now

... but hopefully he will later.  I've threatened Mulligan with a bath for some time, however the weather had not cooperated.  Until today.

A glorious, bright sunny day with nary a cloud in the sky.  Warm, but not hot.  A perfect time to wet down the beast, soap him up, scrub him all over, and then hose him off.  All the while, I could hear him saying, "I hate you, Daddy.  Why are you doing this to me?"  I expect he will smell better soon, but after his mother let him back in, our house now reeks of wet dog.  Mulligan ran around a bit, first dropping one shoulder to rub around on the rug, then quickly switched over to the other shoulder to try to dry it.  Then he made a few laps around the living room and then the sitting room, seeking any furniture that might absorb the rest of the the moisture that lingers on his coat.  For a big but short dog, Mulligan is quite the playful hound.  Then he followed Mom back out on the deck, hoping the sun would do its part to warm him and dry him out.  Finally I went out with the brush.  It's my way of trying to make up with him.  Mulligan may not like his bath, but he does like the attention he gets when he is brushed.  He is so handsome for an over-sized Basset.  He really is a lovely dog, pretty gentle for a big guy, and a very good companion.

There, there, Mulligan, its all good now.  And you do smell better.  But now I stink.  Like a dog.  Go figure.
